Handyman home repair and maintenance in Mount Dora, Florida

We handle drywall repair, door and window tune-ups, deck and fence repair, trim matching, TV mounting, gutter cleaning and the punch list that's been sitting on the fridge — on Mount Dora's original downtown homes and its newest subdivisions alike. We do not perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC or roofing work; those always need a separately licensed tradesperson, and we'll tell you plainly when a job crosses that line.

Mount Dora is two housing markets wearing one city name

Lake County Property Appraiser parcel data (LCPA FieldMap ArcGIS service), queried directly by this project on 2026-09-19. Improved single-family and condominium parcels in Mount Dora's three city tax-millage codes (00MD, 0MD1, 0MD2). n = 6,423. See research/cama/mount-dora.json and research/cama/mount-dora-method.json for the full method.

The city-wide median hides a real split. In the two original downtown plat sections, the median home was built in 1964 and 53% predate 1970 — original trim, older windows, plaster or early drywall. In the newer subdivisions on the city's edges (Lakes of Mount Dora, Summerbrooke, Timberwalk), every parcel we found was built in 2000 or later. Both are real Mount Dora, and they need different work.

What a Mount Dora home of your vintage usually needs

Before 197019.3%Plaster or very early drywall, original single-pane wood windows, and trim profiles that predate standardized big-box sizing — concentrated in the two original downtown plat sections, where 53% of homes found predate 1970.Texture and trim matching, not just patching. 1970 – 198917.1%Concrete-block construction became standard; original doors, hardware and single-pane or first-generation aluminum windows are now well past their expected service life.Hardware alignment, weatherstripping, and whether the door or window itself (not just the latch) has started to warp.

What we do

General residential repair and maintenance — never electrical, plumbing, HVAC or roofing.

Drywall Repair & Patching

Nail pops, cracked corners, water-stain patches and texture matching — on original plaster-era walls and modern drywall alike.

Door & Window Repair

Sticking doors, misaligned latches, weatherstripping, hardware swaps and tune-ups on original and replacement openings.

Deck & Fence Repair

Board replacement, post leveling, rail repair and gate hardware — with an honest read on what needs a city permit.

Trim & Millwork Matching

Matching original baseboard, casing and crown profiles on Mount Dora's older homes, instead of a visibly wrong modern profile.

TV Mounting & Wall-Hang Installs

Studs found, cable concealed, TV level — on drywall, brick or block, in an original home or a brand-new build.

Gutter Cleaning & Minor Repair

Debris cleared, downspouts checked, loose sections re-hung — under the oak canopy that makes Mount Dora's streets what they are.

Common questions

Do you need a permit to build a deck in Florida?

Often yes, though the exact threshold depends on the city. In Mount Dora specifically, the Building Division should be the first call before any deck work beyond simple board or rail repair — this project found a general summary suggesting small at-grade decks under roughly 120 sq ft might need only a zoning review, but could not confirm that exact figure against a primary Mount Dora document, so treat it as [NEED: verify with the Building Division] rather than settled fact.

Do I need a permit to replace my fence with the same style?

The City of Mount Dora's own Fence Permit Application Checklist (BFP-062) covers new and replacement fence permits with published height and material rules, but does not explicitly address whether a repair-only job (same posts, no new footprint) needs its own permit application. Confirm with the Building Division at (352) 735-7115 before assuming either way.

Can a handyman do electrical work in Florida?

No, not beyond the most trivial tasks. Electrical work always requires a licensed electrical contractor, regardless of job size. We do not perform electrical work of any kind; that always needs its own licensed tradesperson.

How much does drywall repair cost?

Nationally, drywall repair runs about $150–$2,000 per job (average around $612), with small patches running the highest per-square-foot rate ($75–$100/sq ft under 10 sq ft) and larger repairs settling to $50–$75/sq ft. See our full drywall repair cost page for a Mount Dora-specific breakdown by job type — these are researched third-party ranges, not our quote for your job.
